A Cure for Hiccups

Some time ago, I discovered a reliable cure for hiccups. I forget exactly how I stumbled on it, but I've been using it for years, and it's worked every time.

Take fifteen or twenty tiny little sips of water, as fast as you can.

Of course, I can't just leave it at that, I have to add some notes, too.

  • I like the water to be lukewarm.
  • It's hard to sip quickly from a drinking fountain.
  • You don't actually have to use water. I haven't had much luck with anything carbonated, but just about anything else will do.
  • You can learn to recognize the moment when the hiccups go away. Twenty sips is more than enough.
  • I usually need to burp afterward.
