November

Why couldn't Frankenstein's monster dance? He had a foot loose.

Not much has changed since last December. I'm still working on the epilogue to the Markov project. Eventually I had to admit that Details About Operations was going to be way too large, so I split it up, coincidentally into five parts, just like More About Symmetry.

  • The first two parts, Details About Operations and From Six Operations, are large, but they were also essentially done back in December.
  • The third part, From Various Places, is nice enough, but also reaches a new low: it has two continuations that are both incomplete. Maybe three if you count One Bit of Information.
  • The fourth part is one of the incomplete continuations.
  • The fifth part is even more incomplete. In fact, it's suppressed.

I also did two other things related to continued fractions.

Counting the first but not the second, that brings the epilogue essay count to 13 completed out of 21 planned. Ironically, 13/21 looks like the golden mean, that hard-to-approximate number that helped start the Markov project (Two Examples).

13/21 = [0,1,1,1,1,1,1,1]

I even did two little things related not to continued fractions but to Lem.

C'est la fin des haricots.
